Lions and Tigers and Bears...Oh My!!

I woke up early Friday morning with grand plans of seizing the day and starting the weekend right. As soon as I walked out the door my head was immediately met with the patter of rain. This feeling of disappointment came over me and I thought my grand plans for the day were ruined.

I finished school around noon and headed home, getting soaked along the way. I walked through our apartment door and immediately was in a terrible mood, my hair was ruined and so was my day. I was consulting with Chris on what to do since the zoo was out of the question. He responded with "Why don't we go anyway, we will have the whole zoo to our self". I thought about this for a bit and begrudgingly disagreed. I didn't want to trudge around the zoo in the pouring rain. After some thought, I decided the journey was going to be worth it. I pulled on my favorite red Hunter rain boots, put my hair in a bun and we were off.

After a long journey on the 2 train deep into the Bronx, we hopped off at a train stop hoping it would be the right one. Fortunately, it was. After a short walk, we had arrived. The zoo was gorgeous, with trees that were painted with warm yellows and faded greens. Fall was in full swing. To my surprise, the rain had stopped and the sun was out. Making the landscape of the zoo even more enjoyable.

We enjoyed exploring the exhibits, uninterrupted by other zoo goers, gazing at the fascinating animals. We found ourselves spending most of our time watching the bears entertain us. The grizzlies were running around searching for their dinner and the polar bear was goofing around in the swimming pool. Chris made the comment that one day he would like to have a bear. I didn't think that a bear would fit in our 325 square foot studio.

Since the day was winding down, zoo security began to kick us out. We stopped to admire the architecture of the zoo. Chris was in love with the copper detailing in some of the buildings. He found a copper door and was obsessed with it. We spent what felt like a million years trying to get the perfect picture of him in front of it.

After getting the perfect picture, it was time to make the journey home. We decided instead of going back to the upper west side we should go to Harlem and get some yummy wings at one of our favorite BBQ spots "Dino BBQ". On the way there we kept contemplating how many wings we should get. Both of us were very hungry and didn't want to order too little wings. We settled on thirteen and a side of fries. Thank goodness we didn't order more; thirteen was plenty for the both of us. Stuffed full of chicken wings we made our way back home to the upper west side. Ending the day cuddled up on the couch watching Ghostbusters. After the morning rain put a damper on my Friday, the rest of the day ended up being an adventure I'll never forget.

Tour de Central Park

On Sundays' Chris and I go on bike riding adventures through central park. This particular Sunday we decided to go to the conservatory garden where Chris proposed to see if the fall flowers had bloomed. When we got there, however, the gates were locked, it was already closed. Undeterred, we biked to the other side where Chris stood on his bike to sneak a peak of the flowers. Fortunately, the fall buds hadn't yet bloomed. Hopefully next time we will catch the garden in its full fall splendor, if we get there in time.

Snuggies and Challah Bread

Fun moments from my quick fall trip to Connecticut.

My girlfriends and I had plans of going apple picking and doing fun fall things in Connecticut over our fall break at NYU. Little did we know the weekend called for lots of rain. So we stayed in a enjoyed each others company. Here are some moments from my trip.

Jess's family invited us over for a traditional Jewish cuisine. It was a delicious dinner complete with brisket, potatoes, and challah bread (I practically ate the whole loaf). A big thanks to Jess's parents for preparing this lovely meal. It was a delightful evening filled with friends, family, and lots of laughs.

We spent the weekend in beautiful Ridgefield CT where we were hosted by my friend Allie and her family. Her mom treated us to amazing meals and the comfort of her home.

Sad because of the rain

Even with the rain we still made the best of our long weekend. I can't wait until my next visit to Connecticut.

Thanks to Jess Freedman for the great photos.
